How and why was Super Sires started?
Super Sires was started by horsemen who wanted to reward and promote Non-Pro riders with large purses and give mare owners a great way to market their foals. Super Sires has continued to grow thanks to dedicated volunteers and innovative thinkers behind the scenes. *Super Sires became a Not for Profit (501 c5) in 2020.
Who chooses event locations and classes?
Super Sires Executive Committee is made up of industry professionals with extensive years of experience and a passion for the industry. They are all respected horsemen and horsewomen who donate their time to give back to the industry.  The Executive Committee meets at least once a month via conference call and in person to discuss new ideas for the Super Sires Program. Does the Executive Committee receive compensation for their time?
No, Executive Committee members do not receive compensation. They volunteer their time and expertise to the Super Sires program.
Are classes NSBA approved?
YES! All Super Sires classes are NSBA approved! All earnings are reported to NSBA, AQHA and Robin Glenn.
What do stallion owners receive in return for their enrollment fees?
Stallion owner benefits include, but are not limited to:
- Marketing online via social media, the Super Sires website, and Champion Horse Sales (Super Sires Stallion Service Sale);
- Marketing in person at major events and venues throughout the year;
- Opportunity for large increase in offspring earnings;
- Five (5) FREE weanling Nominations annually;
- One (1) FREE class entry annually; and
- 10% of purse money is allocated to the stallion owners with offspring earnings.
How much does it cost to enroll my stallion in Super Sires?
Super Sires Stallion Enrollment Fees are paid annually and fund BREEDERS PURSE classes. The annual fee is $3,500 plus one donated breeding. Grandfathering Enrollment Fees vary (see STALLION ENROLLMENT FORM on our FORMS page.) Annual Enrollment Fees include the following:
- $3,000 – Enrollment Fee – 100% goes toward BREEDERS PURSES;
- $500 – Administrative Fee – Pays Executive Director salary; and
- Donated Breeding– Funds STAKES PURSES, covers office expenses, marketing, etc.
How do I enroll my stallion?
Easy enough…. if you own 50% or more of the stallion, just complete the STALLION ENROLLMENT FORM on our FORMS page and return it to the address listed with your payment. When the enrollment fees are paid, your stallion becomes a Super Sire.
If I enroll my stallion for the next breeding year, is there a way to make previous foal crops eligible?
Yes! Grandfathering stallions pay the same fee(s) that enrolled stallions paid for the specific foal crops. The options for grandfathering can be found on the Super Sires STALLION ENROLLMENT FORM on our FORMS page.
What if my stallion dies?
Super Sires offers a discounted annual Enrollment Fee to deceased stallions. If a stallion has been enrolled in Super Sires for one year, the Enrollment Fee decreases the year after death to $500 plus a donated breeding. In the unfortunate event of the passing of your enrolled stallion, please contact the Super Sires office and we will make the necessary adjustments to adjust subsequent year’s Enrollment Fees.
If your stallion is deceased and has never been enrolled in Super Sires, the standard Enrollment Fee would need to be paid for the stallion’s year of death. Enrollment Fee for subsequent years would be $500 plus a donated breeding. Please see the DECEASED STALLION ENROLLMENT FORM on our FORMS page.
How do I know if my foal is eligible for Super Sires classes?
Requirements for your foal to be eligible for BREEDERS PURSE classes are the following:
- Foal’s sire must be enrolled in Super Sires during CONCEPTION year of foal;
- Foal must be NOMINATED to the Super Sires program, so visit our FORMS page to find the Foal Nomination forms.
Requirements for your foal to be eligible for STAKES PURSE classes are the following:
- Foal’s sire must have been enrolled in Super Sires for one year (any year); and
- Foal must be NOMINATED to the Super Sires program, so visit our FORMS page to find the Foal Nomination forms.
What's the difference between a Super Sires Breeders Purse class and a Super Sires Stakes Purse class?
Breeding Purse classes are 100% funded annually by stallion owner Enrollment Fees. ONLY nominated foals sired by stallions that were enrolled during the BREEDING year are eligible for entry.
Stakes Purse classes are funded by our Sponsors, Super Sires Stallion Service Sale, Nomination Fees, etc. Nominated foals sired by ANY past or presently enrolled stallion are eligible for entry.

How can I tell if my foal is eligible to compete in a Breeders Purse class?
If your foal’s sire was enrolled in Super Sires during the year your foal was conceived and your foal has been nominated, YES it is eligible.
If your foal’s sire was enrolled in Super Sires during the year your foal was conceived and your foal has NOT YET been nominated you can still make your foal eligible. Before class entry, simply nominate your foal by visiting our FORMS page and completing a Nomination Form.
How much does it cost to nominate a foal to Super Sires?
Super Sires Nomination Fees are based on the age of the foal and are as follows (as of January 1, 2023):
- $150 – Weanling (postmarked through December 31 of foaling year);
- $250 – Yearling (postmarked through December 31 of yearling year); or
- $350 – 2-Year-Old and Up (January 1 of 2YO year and beyond).

How do I nominate my eligible foal to a Super Sires Program?
You’ll need to complete a NOMINATION FORM on our FORMS page. Submit form with payment and your foal becomes eligible for entry into Super Sires classes.
Will I receive anything after nominated my foal to Super Sires?
Yes, all nominated foals are provided a digital Eligibility Certificate that notes eligibility (Breeders Purse Year and/or Stakes Purse).
How do I know if a horse has already been nominated to Super Sires?
You can find a list of nominated horses HERE or give us a call, we’ll be happy to help.
If I purchase a horse that has been nominated to Super Sires, is there anything else I need to do before entering a Super Sires class?
Yes, you will need to complete a Super Sires TRANSFER FORM that you will find on our FORMS page. Simply submit this form, along with proof of ownership, before entering any Super Sires class.
Where does the purse money come from that is paid out each year?
BREEDERS PURSEÂ classes are funded by the Enrollment Fees paid by Stallion owners each year. 100% of Enrollment Fees are set aside for Breeders Purse classes. These classes are exclusive to foals that are products of the corresponding breeding year. EXAMPLE: In 2022, Enrollment Fees collected will be paid out in 2024 Yearling classes, in 2025 2-Year-Old classes and so on.)
STAKES PURSE classes are funded by SPONSOR contributions, as well as monies generated through Super Sires Nominations and the SUPER SIRES STALLION SERVICE SALE which can be found on CHAMPION HORSE SALES.
Do I need to purchase my breeding from Super Sires for my foal to be eligible for Breeders Purse classes?
No, requirements for your foal to be eligible for BREEDERS PURSE classes are the following:
- A stallion must be enrolled in Super Sires during conception year of foal; and
- Foal must be NOMINATED to the appropriate Super Sires program.
Mare owners can acquire a breeding to a Super Sires stallion in a variety of ways: from stallion owner, breeding farm, program auctions, and the annual SUPER SIRES STALLION SERVICE SALE which can be found on CHAMPION HORSE SALES
If I purchase a yearling that has NOT been nominated, but was sired by a stallion that was enrolled during the year my yearling was conceived, can I nominate the yearling to the Super Sires program?
Yes. Your foal will need to be NOMINATED (forms available on the FORMS page). Once nomination is complete, your foal will be eligible for BREEDERS PURSE money and entry in STAKES PURSES classes.
How much money has Super Sires awarded?
As of end of year 2024, Super Sires has awarded over $1.2 Million to Non-Pro and Open classes. Super Sires has an estimated half-a-million dollars in BREEDERS PURSE accounts for future foal crops. Look below to see our latest awards money totals.
